I've spent years helping people navigate dating, relationships, heartbreak and starting again.
You might imagine that means I've always behaved impeccably in matters of attraction myself.
It does not. 😂
Over the years I've collected more stories than I probably ought to have - from my own dating experiences, conversations with singles, running singles events, working with clients and simply watching human beings trying to understand other human beings.
Some are funny. Some are awkward. Some have made me stop and think. And occasionally, I'm the one who should have known better.
Because being a dating coach doesn't mean I've got every relationship right, never fancied the wrong person or always behaved with perfect dignity.
As you'll discover when I tell you about the time my daughter caught me sniffing a strange man at a wedding.
Yes. Really.
There's usually something underneath the story
The funny moments are often the ones that get us talking, but they're rarely just funny.
Why can we have fantastic chemistry with someone online and feel absolutely nothing when we meet?
Why can one person's idea of an interesting conversation make somebody else's nervous system want to run for the hills?
Why do we sometimes ignore things we know aren't right for us?
And why can something ridiculously small suddenly change how attracted we feel to somebody?
Dating after 50 isn't simply about finding the right app, writing the perfect profile or knowing what to say on a first date.
It's about people.
And people are complicated.
So these are my confessions, observations and occasional “Jaq, what on earth were you thinking?” moments — with a little look at what they might teach us about attraction, dating, relationships and ourselves.
